Surgeons Perform Better with Eye Movement Training

"Those are the feet, Dr. Green! The heart's over here!" O.K., so maybe things have never gotten that bad in any OR you've ever been in, but the finding out of the University of Exeter that "surgeons learn their skills more quickly if they are taught how to control their eye momements" still shouldn't come as a complete surprise. Granted, the study did discover key focal differences between novice and expert surgeons, but what was the take-home message? "Successful surgeons 'lock' their eyes to a critical location while performing complex movements using surgical instruments." So that rules out texting, right?
