The Book of Mormon

If nothing else, a masterpiece of Broadway marketing. This smash-hit musical from the creators of South Park, about a group of eager Mormon missionaries trying to proselytize in Uganda, is just irreverent enough to make the stodgy Broadway crowd feel with-it, yet leavened with enough old-fashioned musical pizzazz to allow them leave the theater feeling completely comfortable. Unlike Joseph Smith's golden plates, the show is not exactly a gift from heaven — an average episode of South Park is funnier — but it's bright and enjoyable, and good enough to make even a grumpy critic's 10 Best list.
