Gilbert Gottfried on Japan
In March, millions of lives were affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Following those disasters, comedian and actor Gilbert Gottfried (@RealGilbert) made a series of jokes on Twitter, pretty much securing himself the title of the Internet's biggest asshat for months. Some of the jokes are too lewd to revisit, but others included "I just split up with my girlfriend, but like the Japanese say, 'They'll be another one floating by any minute now.' " Gottfried, the longtime voice of the Aflac duck, was fired by the company — which does 75% of its business in Japan — for his massively insensitive remarks. "Gilbert's recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac," the company said in a statement. "There is no place for anything but compassion and concern during these difficult times."
