The entire premise of this ad campaign is pretty sad. Ed McMahon, formerly Johnny Carson's longtime sidekick and the host of Star Search, became a pitchman for FreeCreditReport.com late in life. In one commercial, playing off his real-life financial difficulties, McMahon rides in a van, rapping about being broke, going house to house to reclaim sweepstakes checks he used to hand out for American Family Publishers (not Publishers Clearing House). Although he shows a great sense of humor, his slow-beat rap only makes the commercial worse. We hope FreeCreditReport.com at least raised his credit score as a thank-you.
