Wendi Deng

Rupert Murdoch's Wife

Born to a factory director in Guangzhou, China, Deng took an internship at News Corp's Star TV in 1996, shortly after finishing her MBA at Yale. By 1998 she had become a junior executive at the company, and served as Murdoch's interpreter during one of his business trips to China. Murdoch's junior by 38 years, the 42-year old Deng became the third Mrs. Murdoch in 1999; the couple have two children. During the parliamentary phone-hacking inquiry on July 19, she demonstrated the loyalty of a devoted wife — and the physicality of a factory-town streetfighter. When British activist/comedian Jonnie Marbles attempted to throw a shaving-cream pie in Murdoch's face, Deng leapt from her seat and delivered a swipe to Marbles' head.
