Ian Edmondson

Former Assistant News Editor, News of the World

Edmondson was suspended by the News of the World just before Christmas 2010 after the Guardian newspaper obtained documents that alleged he had asked reporters to hack into phones belonging to actress Sienna Miller. Several weeks later, News International submitted several e-mails written by Edmondson to the authorities and Scotland Yard formally reopened its investigation into phone hacking. On April 5 police arrested the 42-year-old journalist "on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications," part of the force's Operation Weeting, which is examining whether there are grounds for bringing further prosecutions in the phone-hacking scandal. Edmondson was released on bail and denies any wrongdoing.
