Neil Wallis

Former News of the World Deputy Editor

Known as "The Wolfman" on Fleet Street, Wallis served under editor Andy Coulson and succeeded him in 2007 when the phone hacking scandal first broke. Wallis left the newspaper in 2009 to work for a PR agency. On July 14 — the day Wallis was arrested on suspicion of engaging in phone hacking while at News of the World — the Metropolitan Police Authority announced that it had employed him as a PR consultant as recently as September 2010. This revelation ultimately forced the resignation of senior Met officers Sir Paul Stephenson and John Yates.
