Red-tailed Hawks in New York City

City dwellers have always been status–conscious when it comes to their address, and Bobby and Violet are no exception: the red-tailed hawks, which mate for life, chose a 12th–story perch overlooking the historic Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village as their home this winter, and are guarding their three eggs, well, like hawks. This prime real estate, which also happens to be the window ledge of New York University president John Sexton's office, quickly got noticed, and the live feed of the pair's nest is so popular it has its own Facebook fan page and Twitter feed. How to tell Bobby and Violet apart? Violet, named after NYU's school color, is plumper than her mate.
