Lisa Stone and her business partners saw that women were missing from the growing conversation online and did something about it. BlogHer started as a small conference for women bloggers back in 2005 and has since turned into a network of 25,000 blogs and more than 2,500 officially affiliated bloggers whose blogs are vetted by an editorial board for quality. The site tapped into the growing mommy-blogging phenomenon, giving small blogs a community and a way to monetize their work by sharing in the network's advertising revenue. Meanwhile, Stone has become the most public face of a site that now reaches a whopping 25 million women each month and is one of the leading news, entertainment and information networks for women online.
