Who's Really America's Team?

Even though they haven't felt like America's Team since their successes in the 1990s, the Dallas Cowboys have held that moniker for decades. The nickname originated from the classic NFL Films franchise. But according to Dan Rooney, founder Art Rooney, Sr.'s son (who took over for "The Chief" when he retired), NFL Films initially wanted to name the Steelers America's Team. And though Pittsburgh had won a handful of Super Bowl rings at the time, "The Chief" passed. "We're just Pittsburgh's team," he said. A few years later, the Cowboys officially acquired the nickname, and it stuck.
