The years have smoothed some of Cake's rougher sonic edges, but the slicker sound is just icing. On the alt-rock quintet's first studio album since 2004, John McCrea's sardonic, half-sung lyrics and Vincent DiFiore's plaintive trumpet still cut like a mouthful of glass.
