The New Yorker, March 29, 2010

Homage
This is a beautifully crafted homage by illustrator Ana Juan in grand New Yorker style. The image of a woman's head surrounded by red floating butterflies pays tribute to fashion designer Alexander McQueen, who committed suicide a few weeks before this cover ran; he had once created a hat designed entirely of butterflies. Juan's moving tribute — note the downcast expression on the woman's face, juxtaposed with the vibrant color fluttering around her — touched a fashion community that was still in mourning.
