Liya Kebede: Miriam Were

Miriam Were has made outstanding contributions to public health in the developing world. She brings basic medical services to women and children in East Africa. As chairperson of the National AIDS Control Council in Kenya, Were orchestrated an HIV/AIDS program that consistently reduced Kenya's HIV prevalence and AIDS-related deaths. She has dedicated her life to this cause.

Kebede is an Ethiopian model, designer and maternal-health advocate
