Apollo 17

Week of Jan. 1, 1973
The crew of the Apollo 17 splashes down safely in the South Pacific under a plume of orange-and-white parachutes, wrapping up a four-year, multi-launch lunar mission that has seen 24 men circle or stand on the moon. The three astronauts onboard return to Earth with 250 lbs. of moon rocks and 3,000 photographs.
