Jarvik 7

You can't possibly get any more personal than an artificial heart. Complete artificial hearts date back to the 1940s, but it wasn't until 1981 when one was implanted into a human. Dr. Barney Clark was the first human recipient of a permanent heart replacement. The Jarvik 7 kept Clark alive for 112 days.
