Engelbart Mouse

If you're navigating through this list with a mouse, then you'll want to thank American inventor Douglas Engelbart for developing the computer mouse back in 1963. The patent, which Engelbart received in 1970, described the mouse as an "X-Y position indicator for a display system." Unfortunately for Engelbart, the computer mouse caught on after his patent ran out, so he never received any royalties for it.
