Dil Se - 1998

Cast: Shahrukh Khan, Manisha Koirala, Preity Zinta

On the eve of India's 50th anniversary, journalist Amar (Khan) is on his way to interview a terrorist leader for an assignment when he meets the mysterious Meghna (Koirala) while waiting for a train. She is, of course, a terrorist herself, with a mission to assassinate the prime minister, and disappears before Amar can profess his love for her. He agrees to marry, instead, the bubbly Preeti (Zinta) — just in time for Meghna to show up at his door. Dil Se is probably best known for the A.R. Rahman-penned hit "Chaiyya Chaiyya" — performed on the roof and flatbeds of a moving train — during which you hope the hip-gyrating dancers don't fall off. Interestingly, Dil Se was a flop in India but a huge success overseas, becoming the first Indian film to become a top 10 hit at the U.K. box office.
