Ingrid Bergman, Roberto Rossellini and Petter Lindstrom

Less than a decade after playing Ilsa in Casablanca's fictional love triangle, Ingrid Bergman was starring in her very own one. Her affair with Italian director Roberto Rossellini — they were working together on the film Stromboli — would give them a child and America a scandal. Bergman and her husband, Dr. Petter Lindstrom, divorced, and her Hollywood career stalled during the first half of the 1950s. The vitriol against Bergman was even heard on the floor of the U.S. Senate. Bergman and Rossellini had two more children together but the marriage didn't last. Around the same time they divorced, the actress went back to winning Oscars.
