Nemesis by Philip Roth

Roth continues his string of late, short, nasty novels — which so far includes Everyman, Indignation, and The Humbling — with the story of Bucky Cantor, a vigorous young man who runs a playground in Newark in 1944. When the neighborhood around it is overrun by a polio epidemic, Cantor flees to a summer camp in the Poconos, but it gradually emerges that his problems are not so easily left behind. 10/12
