How to Speak Alabaman
This ad's PSA-style appeal is simple: "This is Alabama. We speak English," says GOP gubernatorial hopeful Tim James, speaking directly into the camera. "If you want to live here, learn it." (Well, Tim, tell us how you really feel.) So, what is he talking about? Before losing a tight primary race in June, James' pet issue was his promise to rid Alabama of driver's license tests given in any language but good ole Americanese. The proposal might have played well in the Heart of Dixie, but we couldn't get past the dimly lit set, awkward pauses and aimless pacing James seems to be doing in the commercial. No offense, Tim, but it lacks a certain je ne sais quoi.
