Mortlach 70-Year-Old Speyside Single Malt
When John Urquhart ordered a cask of Spanish wood to be filled with a special malt whisky in 1938, he knew he would never live to taste what became of that amber liquor. Exactly 70 years later to the day, the cask was opened, and the contents of that barrel went on sale in March for a cool $15,800 a bottle. Sold in bottles of handblown glass with a silver stopper, Mortlach 70-Year-Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the oldest single-malt whisky on sale around the world today. It's possible some individuals have older bottles in their private collections, but if they do, they're keeping them to themselves.
