Elton John

Sir Elton John was knighted more than a decade ago not just because of a stellar musical career, but also in recognition of his philanthropic work. His 1997 version of Candle in the Wind, a tribute to Princess Diana, brought in some $40 million for charity — but that's just one example. The Elton John AIDS Foundation, which he founded in 1992, continues to support programs to prevent the spread of HIV and help those living with HIV/AIDS around the world. The White Tie & Tiara Ball, a fundraiser for the foundation, is a star-studded annual event. And the singer-composer extraordinaire routinely donates much of his own money to charity. His gift is his song...plus some.
