Illumination

A meteor streaks through the sky over trees and rocks at Joshua Tree National park in southern California's Mojave Desert in this 30-minute time exposure during the night of November 17, 1998. The meteor shower, the most spectacular in 33 years, was actually particles in a long tail of the Tempel-Tuttle comet as it struck the atmosphere.
