Seinfeld (1998)
There was never going to be a perfect way to conclude Seinfeld; the show was just too popular for too long. Unfortunately, most of the 79 million Americans who watched the 169th and final episode from home in 1998 — and the 10 million more, NBC estimated, who caught it at Seinfeld parties across the U.S. — seemed to think the way it ended was downright awful. A parade of cameos from many of the show's minor characters couldn't make up for a plot that left Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer serving a one-year prison sentence for not helping a man who was carjacked. Producer Larry David has said he has no regrets about the way the show ended, but the 2009 Seinfeld reunion he staged for an episode of his new show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, was viewed by many as his attempt at a do-over.
