The Merchant of Venice

Opens June 9
New York Shakespeare Festival, New York City

One of New York City's favorite summer traditions returns: Shakespeare in Central Park, with Al Pacino taking the role of Shylock in a production that will play in repertory with A Winter's Tale through the summer. It's not the first time the cinematic scenery-chewer has played the Bard's controversial villain (he starred in a 2004 movie version), but onstage Pacino is bound to draw crowds — and reportedly is looking toward a Broadway transfer in the fall.
