Cable in the post-Sopranos era is full of dark dramas about violence; is it ready for a dark comedy about illness? If anybody can pull off such a delicate act, it might be Emmy winner and Oscar nominee Laura Linney, here in her first starring TV-series role. Playing a suburban mom and teacher diagnosed with cancer, Linney will need to sell the situation's drama while also proving that laughter is the best medicine — or at least the best painkiller.
