Suzanne Collins

Who is the person who had the most effect or influence on you growing up?
I'd have to say my dad. He was a Vietnam veteran, career Air Force, and a historian as well. It was very important to him that his children have an understanding of war. Growing up, we visited a lot of battlefields, where he would give detailed descriptions of the events. He would correct the inaccuracies in a film and, if it was on television, take advantage of the commercial breaks to read us passages from Plutarch or Sabine. Our four-year assignment in Europe was one long teaching moment. Thank God, he had a gift for making history interesting.
