John Paul's Ponytail

John Paul DeJoria, chairman and co-founder of the hair-styling company John Paul Mitchell Systems — and renowned do-gooder — has long been known for his sleek salt-and-pepper ponytail. But in the wake of the devastating Asian tsunami, he offered to lop it off to raise money for the Red Cross's relief efforts. DeJoria's asking price was $10,000, but he helped raise more than $50,000 before giving radio host Leeza Gibbons the honor of the ceremonial cut at her studio in January 2005. (He's since grown it back.)
