The Diamond Cutter's Cut

On a Wednesday in the summer of 1973, a New York diamond cutter left his shop, B&B Exclusive Diamonds, to get a haircut. When he returned to the unattended store, $250,000 in diamonds was missing. Perhaps too focused on his locks, he neglected to lock the safe where he had left the jewels, and a thief entered through a 14-in. (36 cm) transom window above the door before making off with the goods.
