Boom Goes the Dynamite

Brian Collins was a freshman at Ball State University when he volunteered to be a substitute sports anchor at his school's news station. He quickly learned he needed some practice after stuttering, stammering and stopping in his tracks through an agonizing four-minute report. Toward the end of the newscast, he coined a phrase — "boom goes the dynamite" — now used by the likes of Will Smith and Bob Costas to acknowledge a public-speaking flub.
