Best Animated Feature

Nominees:
Coraline, Henry Selick
Fantastic Mr. Fox, Wes Anderson
The Princess and the Frog, John Musker and Ron Clements
The Secret of Kells, Tomm Moore
*Up, Pete Docter

The full name of this category is Best Animated Feature Film of the Year. It should be called Best Year for Animated Feature Films. In CGI, traditional animated and stop-motion, the banquet was so bountiful that your TIME critic put three animated features — The Princess and the Frog, Up and Fabulous Mr. Fox — at the top of his 10 Best list. The Academy has room for just one, and it will be Up. Four of the past five Pixar features have won this award (Cars lost to Happy Feet). Even without this sterling track record, Up's nominations in the Best Picture, Original Screenplay and Score categories indicate that the voters love it. Expect that love to climax March 7.
