The Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, like the Best Supporting Actor prize, was effectively determined by the end of Cannes. That's where Mo'Nique, erstwhile stand-up comic and current talk-show host, ratified her success at Sundance and proved a sensation as the truly rancid mother in Precious. Cruz, Gyllenhaal and the Up in the Air co-stars can enjoy the ride for the next few weeks; they'll be staying in their seats while Mo'Nique strides up to accept the Oscar.
