Chicago's Failed Olympic Bid

"One of the things that I think is most valuable about sports is that you can play a great game and still not win. Although I wish that we had come back with better news from Copenhagen, I could not be prouder of my hometown of Chicago."—Oct. 2, 2009

Obama played a pretty good game in trying to bring the 2016 Summer Olympics to the Windy City. He even took a last-second trip with Michelle to lobby Olympic delegates in Copenhagen. But while Chicago was widely seen as a favorite to land the games, it was eliminated in the first round of voting, prompting critics to argue Obama should have stayed focused on higher priorities at home.
