Dell Adamo XPS

The first thing you notice about the Dell Adamo XPS is its shadow-thin profile, which measures 0.41 in. at its thickest. Then, once you swipe the capacitive touch-release latch, a gorgeous 13.4-in. HD widescreen LED display appears, along with a full-size metal-capped keyboard that tucks into the screen when closed. The other thing you notice is the machine's unusual hinge design, which angles the keyboard up and off your lap in an attempt to keep the computer running cool. Not that you'll actually use this laptop on your lap, because, you know, the hinge design doesn't really lend itself to that. Dell's Adamo XPS is either a work of engineering genius or pure insanity. The jury is still out. Price: $1,799.
