Want a Prius? Get in Line

Be flexible, because the car you want may no longer be available. Toyota dealers, for example, have only a six-day supply of the 2010 Toyota Prius on hand, which means there's likely to be a long wait. Chrysler shut its factories for two months after its bankruptcy in May so supplies of its popular minivans have dropped to scarce. (Who ever dreamed we see the day?) Ford's chief financial officer Lewis Booth says his company won't make a decision on building more cars until the end of August, so shortages will be appearing in their product lineup too. If your desired car is out of stock, haggle a bit — dealers will often tap other dealers to get a car that will close the deal.
