Idaho

Learning the art of fly-fishing is a crucial component of being a real American, if for no other reason than to give you something to do when you retire besides talking about your grandchildren. Idaho is one of the better places to break out the rod and reel, and trout are especially plentiful. Silver Creek Outfitters offers guided tours, in which you spend a day on the shores of the Big Wood River learning how to fly-cast from an expert. Just don't expect anyone to show you how to look good in waders. Rate: from $300 for two people
