Is It Green?

New York's State Commission on Asset Maximization has suggested that the state lease some of the land it owns in the Marcellus Shale region,a half hour drive from Syracuse, for natural gas wells. The proposal has generated opposition from environmentalists, who already oppose drilling on private lands because of concerns about water pollution. Another, greener scheme to lease land for the construction of power-producing windmills near the shores of Lake Ontario is also facing strong headwinds.
