Pike on the Block

Like many states aiming to ease their economic distress, Massachusetts is hoping to follow the example of Indiana, whose sale of a state-owned toll road in 2006 netted a cool $3.8 billion. Would the Bay State really sell off its fabled (some would say infamous) Massachusetts Turnpike? Governor Deval Patrick is starting small: earlier this year, the state legislature approved selling the pike's 11 service plazas, and bids are now being reviewed. Too bad they can't find somebody to take the Big Dig off their hands.
