2006 - "Ursprache"

Definition: a hypothetical parent language

Winner: 13-year-old Kerry Close of Asbury Park, N.J., who beat 274 other kids, including Akshay Buddiga — who fainted onstage while spelling alopecoid (foxlike) before getting right back up to finish the word. Buddiga was the 2004 runner-up. His brother Pratyush won the competition in 2002.
