Julie & Julia

In Theaters August 7

Who'd have pegged Meryl Streep for queen of the summer box office? Last August she sang and danced her way through Mamma Mia!; this August, she'll slice and dice her way through Julie & Julia. The movie — adapted from the book, adapted from the blog — is the story of parallel kitchen projects. Julie Powell (Amy Adams), a frustrated 30-year-old worker bee, decides to add purpose, and butter, to her life by cooking her way through Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Meanwhile, we follow its author through her own discovery of the culinary arts in Paris in the '50s. Throw in Streep's Julia impression and this has the makings of a delectable confection.
