John Prescott, former Deputy Prime Minister

The claims

Prescott claimed $475 for the fitting of mock-Tudor beams to the front of the home he has in his constituency of Hull East (officially, the claim was "to supply and fix mock Tudor boards to apex of front gable"). A plumber also charged him $320 to "refix WC seat." For the record, Prescott's toilet seat was repaired twice in the space of two years.

The justification

"Every expense was entirely consistent within the rules and practices of the House of Commons on claiming expenses at the time."

The response

Prescott hasn't said as of yet whether he will pay anything back.
