Matt Lauer vs. Tom Cruise

The feud: It was all smiles and obligatory movie-plugging during a 2005 Today show interview until Lauer brought up Cruise's earlier criticism of Brooke Shields for taking medication to deal with postpartum depression (as a staunch Scientologist, Cruise dismisses psychiatry). In a clash heard round the daytime world, Cruise proceeded to issue a parade of spirited questions, pressing Lauer on the history of prescription drugs.

Chance at reconciliation: When Cruise came back to the show in December 2008, any chance of a much-clamored-for repeat showdown quickly dissipated into something akin to a daytime love fest, with Cruise diplomatically clearing the air and apologizing for his "arrogance."

He said/He said:
Cruise: "Matt, you're glib ... you don't even know what Ritalin is."
Lauer: "Well, it's really impressive listening to you ... It looks like you've done your homework."
Cruise: "And you should too. Just knowing people who are on Ritalin isn't enough. You should be a little more responsible."
