Out of Africa

Kenya

Like so many epics, Out of Africa ends on a sad note. But its soaring story about love and endurance amidst the beauty of the Kenyan wilderness is worth reliving. Though you'll prefer to skip over much of the movie (particularly the syphilis and plane crash portions), you can act out the safari bits with the help of Kensington Tours. Starting at $450 per person per day, the wilderness outfit will guide you through the brush of the Masai Mara game reserve and help you photograph the so-called Big Five — elephants, rhinos, lions, buffalos and leopards. To avoid your own tragic ending, be sure to dress in appropriate safari gear; stick to layers in shades of khaki, as bright colors are catnip to big game. At night you'll retreat to your own romantic tent (rose petals optional) in a camp watched over by locals who keep the lions at bay.
