Alberto Gonzales
Bush's longtime friend from Texas had a rough time as Attorney General. So rough, in fact, that when he was called to testify before Congress about his role in the firings of nine U.S. attorneys and the misuse of the National Security Agency's domestic-eavesdropping program, Gonzales insisted that he pretty much had no idea what was going on the entire time he worked as the nation's chief law-enforcement officer. His constant refrain: "I don't recall;" he finally resigned from the position in August 2007. Announcing plans to write a memoir in January 2009, Gonzales told The Wall Street Journal that he resents being portrayed as "the one who is evil," adding, "I consider myself a casualty — one of the many casualties of the war on terror." Maybe he should just stick with "I don't recall."
