George W. Bush

Do we really need to remind you about this one? An election that tore the country in half and kept everyone on edge for weeks, the 2000 contest between Vice President Al Gore and Texas Governor George W. Bush was one for the ages. The seesawing Election Night cable news projections — Bush, Gore, Bush — the slow, slightly absurd Florida recount, and the final Supreme Court decision that gave the whole enchilada to dubya. Discussions of this election still send people into paroxysms of rage.
