"And a canine shall lead them..." That's not exactly how the saying goes, but it's close enough for the people of Occupy Denver, who in November elected Shelby a 3-year-old Border Collie as their official leader. The vote took only five minutes.
Shelby's owner, a 27-year-old filmmaker, said he put her up for the leadership spot after being inspired by fellow cinema auteur Michael Moore, who spoke to their rally and praised the leaderless movement. In response to his speech, the group decided to establish a symbolic leader. "Shelby has more human traits than any corporation," Nesby told Denver's Westword.com. "She can bleed, she can breed and she can show emotion. If this is the way the corporate world chooses to do business, let's apply the same rule."
