Former News of the World Royal Editor
One of the first casualties of the phone-hacking scandal, Clive Goodman who covered the royal family for the News of the World was jailed for four months in 2007 after confessing to unlawfully intercepting hundreds of telephone voicemail messages intended for three staffers at Buckingham Palace. Royal officials had complained to police about possible voicemail hacking after Prince William became suspicious over a November 2005 story in the tabloid about a knee injury he'd suffered but had told few people about. In July 2011, Goodman was rearrested on suspicion of corruption and was released on bail.
