|Better Know a District - Florida's 19th - Robert Wexler|
What started as a love affair between Colbert and Congress has considerably cooled in recent years. Kicked off in 2006, Colbert's "Better Know a District" series took the host to the offices of representatives throughout the country for a sit-down interview. But this being The Colbert Report, the host didn't exactly stick to campaign talking points. Though some congressmen happily played along for the free publicity (like former Florida congressman Robert Wexler, above), others complained about selective editing. Recently, the House has attempted to separate itself from Colbert's jabs. More than 40 segments aired in 2006, compared to less than 10 this year. In its place, Colbert has started a "Better Know a Protectorate" series, focusing on areas like American Samoa and has even testified before Congress. In character, of course.
