A partnership between Lego and the MIT Media Laboratory, the Mindstorms collection combines Lego's classic building bricks with programmable microcomputers that bring Lego creations to life. The third-generation Mindstorms NXT 2.0 was released in August 2009, while the original, called the Mindstorms Robotics Invention System kit, was released in 1998 with two motors, two touch sensors and one light sensor. Children and adults alike can easily learn to build and program robots that are capable of solving games of Sudoku or automatically flushing the toilet for you.
