History tells us that supergroups are rarely super, let alone groups. But the members of Monsters of Folk My Morning Jacket's Jim James, M. Ward and Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis spent five years together writing songs and crafting the rich harmonies on their debut album, becoming a real band in the process. Of course, Monsters of Folk sounds a lot more like rock than folk, but let's worry about living up to one billing at a time.
